Common questions

Do wisdom teeth always need to be removed?
No. Wisdom teeth that have fully erupted, are healthy, and can be cleaned normally may be left in place and monitored. Removal is recommended when teeth are impacted, partially erupted, crowding neighbors, decayed, or causing infection or cysts.
Will I be asleep during the procedure?
That is your choice. Many patients choose IV sedation, which keeps you comfortable and unaware of the procedure while breathing on your own. General anesthesia is also available in our office. Simple extractions can be done with local anesthesia alone.
How long does recovery take?
Swelling peaks around day 2–3 and settles over the first week. Most people return to school or work within 2–4 days and eat normally within about a week. Full healing of the sockets takes a few weeks.
What is dry socket and how do I avoid it?
Dry socket happens when the blood clot in the extraction site is lost early. It is uncommon but painful. Avoid smoking, drinking through straws, and vigorous rinsing for the first few days, and follow the post-operative instructions we give you.
Do I need a referral from my dentist?
No. Many patients are referred by their dentist, but you can contact us directly. Bring your referral slip or your dentist's name if you have one so we can send them a report.
